What is the Emotional Competence Inventory?
The Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI 360) is a 360º Feedback instrument based on the research of Daniel Goleman and Richard Boyatzis measuring an individual’s emotional intelligence.
360º Feedback is a widely recognised means of obtaining an objective picture of an individual’s strengths and their development needs. This is achieved using a customised questionnaire to be completed both by the subject and also by members of their business team or network.
Emotional Intelligence is the intelligence we have that helps us both know and manage ourselves (intrapersonal intelligence) and also understand, manage and motivate other people (interpersonal intelligence).
The ECI 360 instrument provides feedback on how key people in your environment perceive your effectiveness in 4 critical areas of emotional intelligence:
- Self-Awareness
- Self Management
- Social Awareness
- Relationship Management.
These competencies are defining characteristics of outstanding leaders and high achievers. The assessment provides an information platform from which people can move forward and maximise their leadership, performance and personal state in the working environment.
Some companies insist that their entire workforce receives feedback every 6 months. Other organisations reserve ECI 360 specifically for top level leaders.
How are the results used?
1. Coaching is a powerful medium for an individual to address the situations highlighted by their feedback and find ways of developing their own performance in any area of business or personal life.
2. Leadership development is the most common use for ECI 360. Feedback is given in conjunction with group exercises designed as powerful metaphors of the workplace.
